Hearing impaired children have been center of our focus since the association was founded in 2001. It is not easy in a world that is based on the spoken and written language.
Camps for mixed groups of deaf and hearing children were a meeting of two worlds. The main program of the extracurricular drama class are excursions to various interesting places in the city and the area, thematic workshops, games and dramatizations to provide new experiences for the children, new terms and words in the Czech language and Czech sign language. The educational portal www.eliska.cz contains interactive exercises in various school subjects and short videos. The use of these materials in education significantly increases its attractiveness and efficiency. DVDs with fairytales narrated in Czech sign language (Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, Cook, mug Cook!) were the first attempt to bring stories to deaf children in their language.
Then we had the breakthrough idea of making a real, professional feature film. Our first short film with deaf children, "Holoubci" ("Doves"), was chosen for the Golden Egg competition as the International Film Festival in Reykjavik.
The series of twelve short educational films is another contribution to the education of deaf children using modern methods and tools that respect their specific communication needs.
